What’s happened To the Therapy Department? Therapists lobbied for a water cooler to be placed in the gym to assure that all residents would have access to water during their workouts. Proper hydration of the body is important in all kinds of weather, but even more vital when the temperatures start climbing. Now, all residents can have a drink of cool, fresh water during their rest breaks from their therapy treatment. The therapists are also keeping track of how much water is taken in, especially for those residents who tend to not drink enough. If nursing staff needs to know how much the resident drank while in therapy, they can call down or come visit. There is a clipboard in the gym exclusively for documentation of water intake. We are sad to be losing our therapy aide, whose last day is June 15th. However, in two years we hope to have Randi back, but as an Occupational Therapist! She is starting school on June 22nd in Spokane, which has been a long-term dream for her. We are very proud of her and wish her the best! On a happier note, Josh Keene will be replacing Randi, beginning sometime in June. Josh brings good administrative skills and resident care skills to the position, and assuming he can roller skate, we figure he’ll be able to fill Randi’s shoes! Welcome, Josh! You should have noticed a few cosmetic improvements in the therapy department. They moved the offices around a bit, to accommodate an additional computer and in order to allow more treatment space. They even got a new “Balance Master” that focuses on the areas individuals need to work on to increase their independence. This machine also increases a person’s ability to more dependent and to stay home longer. The therapy department wants to remind everyone that the residents primary needs is always their primary concern, and that they look forward to helping you in whatever therapy needs you may have. News from the Nursing Department Clarkston Care Center is a great place for nurses to thrive; we challenge our nurses to be the best they can be all the time. We promote our nurses from within and encourage them to step outside their comfort zones and take on new challenges; we have promoted our floor nurses to Charge nurses who are responsible for the day to day running of their individual units. Our MDS and Restorative nurses also at one point in their careers were our floor nurses; we have nurses who have been in our building at the start of their work careers some worked as aids on the floor or housekeeping before they went to school. Our nurses feel as if they are part of one big family and enjoy the day to day rewards with caring for the elders in our building Nurses have started their work careers and advanced and stay with Clarkston Care Center because of the family atmosphere, and warm, and friendly environment. I have been in the building as the Director of Nursing for over two years and continue to learn new and interesting things about our extended family on a daily basis, I continue to be impressed with the care and support I see which is given to and received from our residents on a daily basis. Residents are greeted by administration staff to ensure all their needs are being met and that they are receiving the best possible care. Clarkston Care Center continues to rehab a large portion of patients to send them back home. The goal is always to help patients achieve their highest level of functioning. |

Summer Activities in Full Swing! It’s that time of year again, where we get outdoors to enjoy the sunshine, and the warm weather! One of the best parts of the spring/summer season is getting to share the outdoors with our friends and family at the Clarkston Care Center BBQ’s. The dietary department never disappoints with its famous potato salad, and baked beans. It seems that there are always plentiful chips, watermelon and ice cream as well. Let's not forget to mention the hamburgers and hot dogs with all of the trimmings! The next BBQ is scheduled for the 24th of June at 11:00 a.m. and we hope to have a good turnout of family, friends, and residents. There will be BBQ’s in July and August and we will wrap up the season with a Cowboy Breakfast toward the end of September to celebrate the Nez Perce County Fair. There will be entertainment for all to enjoy, and the “Washington Old Time Fiddlers” will be here for the Cowboy Breakfast in September. We are also using that event to thank all of our volunteers that serve here at Clarkston Care Center. Everyone is welcome to attend these events; there is always plenty of food! We hope to see you there! A special thanks to all the volunteers. We really appreciate you. Written by: Dawn Robins, Activity Director |
